We are aware that there were intermittent periods of downtime yesterday. The downtime was caused by excessive resource usage in one of our Amazon servers, leading to slow performance and timeouts. We have moved all of our assets off the server in question to another, stable server. We have been monitoring our performance metrics since the move, and we have not seen any outages or excessive resource usage. We are fully confident that this issue will not recur in the future.

We are also aware that users were unable to access this page when the site was down, which prevented our ability to post updates as the situation unfolded. We are considering more robust alternatives to this status page; we will also start creating backups of our mailing list on a regular basis.
